Rallying a workforce around green energy
Ørsted
As Ørsted shifted from fossil fuels to offshore wind, we helped it tap its own workforce — a company-wide challenge that funded six new green-energy ideas.
The Challenge
Over a decade, Ørsted transformed from a fossil-fuel provider into a green-energy leader. To keep advancing toward a world running entirely on green energy, it wanted to reach the knowledge held right across its own workforce.
What we did
We helped Ørsted build a staged, lasting approach rather than a one-off event. It began with an innovation challenge to create energy and drive the company's new innovation strategy. To keep the momentum, always-open idea channels let business units capture and act on ideas year-round. And to bring people together offline, Ørsted layered on an innovation community — technology pop-ups, project demonstrations and networking events.
Results
The company-wide challenge invited around 6,700 people, generating 160 ideas, six of which were funded. By sequencing a challenge, ongoing idea campaigns and community-building, Ørsted rallied its employees around developing new green-energy solutions — and gave innovation a permanent home rather than a single moment.
