Who is Ørsted?
Ørsted is the largest energy provider in Denmark and the largest off-shore wind operator in the world, operating within B2B and B2C markets and employing 6,000 people globally.
What did Ørsted aim to achieve?
Over the last decade Ørsted has been transitioning from a black energy (i.e. fossil fuels) provider to a green energy (i.e. renewable energy) provider, now operating the largest off-shore wind farm in the world. To continue their advancements towards a world that runs entirely on green energy, Ørsted sought the knowledge that lies within the entire workforce.
How we did it
Stage One: Innovation challenge
The innovation challenge was a competitive and engaging experience intended to create excitement, drive Ørsted’s newly defined innovation strategy and serve as the starting point of many innovation initiatives to come.
Stage Two: Always open idea channels
In order to keep the momentum following the innovation challenge, Ørsted introduced always open idea channels. This enabled business units to capture ideas year-round and act on opportunities as they presented themselves.
Stage Three: Innovation community
To coincide with innovation efforts taking place online, Ørsted wants to initiate a series of offline innovation activities to build the innovation community, such as technology pop-ups, project demonstrations and networking events.
The result
- 6700Invited
- 160Ideas generated
- 6Ideas funded
Two years later, Ørsted launched a company-wide innovation challenge inviting all 6,000 employees to participate. By implementing a variety of innovation initiatives beginning with an innovation challenge, followed by idea-campaigns and community building, Ørsted was able to rally employees around contributing to the development of new green energy solutions.
