Definition

Brainstorming is a structured yet flexible group creativity technique widely used in innovation, product development, and problem-solving. It encourages participants to rapidly generate a wide range of ideas without immediate judgment, fostering an open and collaborative environment.

This method is especially effective during the Ideation phase of innovation processes, where quantity and diversity of ideas are prioritized. Brainstorming sessions can be conducted in person or virtually, and are often followed by steps such as Screening, Shaping, or Validation to refine and develop the most promising concepts.

Used across industries—from design thinking workshops to corporate strategy meetings—brainstorming not only boosts creativity but also improves team collaboration, communication, and engagement. Modern brainstorming can also involve tools like digital whiteboards, sticky notes, and collaboration platforms to enhance participation and idea tracking.
